Shooting in Orange

Police in Orange are searching for the suspect in a shooting incident that injured a local man on Aug. 25.

In a news release, the Orange Police Department reports officers were dispatched to the 1300 block of 14th Street in Orange in reference to a shooting victim at about 7 p.m. Upon arrival at the location, investigators observed a 54-year-old man sitting in a chair in the front yard of a residence with an apparent gunshot wound to his right leg, according to OPD Captain Jennifer Burns. The known male suspect who shot the wounded man had reportedly already fled the scene in a small blue car. Officers searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect at the time.

The shooting victim told investigators he was walking northbound on the western edge of the roadway near the 1300 block of 14th Street when he was approached by the suspect, who was driving the small blue car. The victim reported that an argument developed, and the suspect shot him with either a silver revolver or a black and silver automatic handgun. The suspect then fled the area.

The victim was treated at the scene by Acadian Ambulance personnel and first responders from the Orange Fire Department. He was then transported to St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Beaumont for further treatment and was in good condition at the time of the release.

The investigation is ongoing.
