Shooting suspect identified

Detectives in Orange County are working to piece together the circumstances that led to a shooting Dec. 12.

According to Orange County Sheriff's Office (OCSO) Criminal Investgator Janois Grizzaffi, deputies responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting at approximately 12:23 p.m. The caller reported that a male subject had been shot in the lower leg area and needed assistance. Deputies and first responders were dispatched to the Texaco at the intersection of Highway 62 and Highway 12 in Mauriceville, where the victim and 911 caller were located. Medics attended to the 45-year-old victim while deputies and other area law enforcement officers saturated the Greenwood Acres neighborhood and quickly located the 32-year-old suspect, identified by OCSO as Joshua Taylor. Tayor, who was acquainted with the victim, was taken into custody and transported to the Orange County Correctional Facility. He was chaged with unlawful restraint, two counts of deadly conduct and aggravated assault with a firearm. Unlawful restraint is a Class A misdemeanor, and the other charges against Taylor are felonies. He was expected to be arraigned and have bond set on Dec. 13.

The victim was said to be in stable condition and was flown by medical helicopter to Christus St. Elizabeth hospital in Beaumont.

The exact cause of the shooting continues to be investigated, reported Grizzaffi.
