Six arrested at Nederland drug house

Sept. 27 at 7:20 p.m., Jefferson County Narcotics Officers served a narcotics search warrant at in the 300 block of South 4th Street in Nederland, a house has been a continued nuisance to the community, Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Capt. Crystal Holmes said in a release.

Narcotics arrests have been made from that house on two other recent occasions, Holmes said.

Jefferson County SWAT conducted a takedown of two vehicles in the driveway as other team members entered into the residence. SWAT members caught Dillon Champagne as he was trying to flush meth down the toilet.

Six people total were arrested at the home:

  • Shawn Manning, 47, from Nederland, charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana
  • Dillon Champagne, 23, from Nederland, charged with possession of a controlled substance and tampering with physical evidence
  • Cullen Cannon, 33, from Port Neches, charged with possession of a controlled substance
  • Taylor Crochet, 23, from Port Neches, charged with possession of a controlled substance
  • Melissa "Mallett" Byrom, 36, from Groves, charged with possession of marijuana
  • Kayla Viator, 32, from Nederland, charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia

JCSO says that the citizens of Nederland played a great part in assisting with this investigation by reporting the continuous drug activity being conducted in their community and also thanked the Nederland Police Department for their assistance.

The JCSO Narcotics Division said they appreciate and encourage the community to continue with assisting our efforts to stop drug dealing in their neighborhoods.
