Slick roads lead to serious auto-ped accident

Rain-slick roads resulting from weekend showers reportedly caused a driver to lose control and strike two pedestrians, injuring multiple people involved in the accident, reports Port Arthur Police Department (PAPD) Detective Sadie Guedry.

According to a news release from PAPD, officers responded to the 9000 block of SH 87 in reference to the accident at 1:36 p.m. Sept. 9. The investigation reportedly revealed that a vehicle traveling eastbound on the roadway had hydroplaned, causing the driver to lose control. The out-of-control vehicle collided with another automobile parked on the side of the road and also struck two pedestrians near the parked vehicle.

Both pedestrians suffered serious injuries, police report. An occupant of the vehicle also susptained life-threatening injuries. All victims were transported to St. Elizabeth's hospital in Beaumont for treatment.

The highway was temporarily shut down following the accident but partially reopened a short time later.

The accident remains under investigation.
