Stabbing in Beaumont's Old Town

Stabbing in Beaumont's Old Town

One man is in custody and another suffered minor injuries after a stabbing in Beaumont’s Old Town.

Police responded to the home about 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 2 in the 2200 block of Evalon to find one man distraught and another with a stab wound to his back.

Shedrick Henderson was the man who was stabbed.

He said trouble has been constant with his father-in-law in recent months, but he didn’t expect what happened.

“I could tell something was brewing,” Henderson said. “I was getting ready to leave.”

But before he could leave, Henderson’s father-in-law, Matthew Davis, began fighting with him and eventually pulled a sharp object, stabbing Henderson.

“He hit me, like 'boom boom'...” Henderson said “That’s when I felt that wetness back there.”

Henderson called police who arrested Davis and confiscated the pair of scissors his father-in-law used to stab Henderson.

As he stood bleeding after refusing assistance from Beaumont EMS, Henderson lamented his family drama, but said he loves his wife of 15 years and her father.

“Ever since I met her he’s had something negative to say,” Henderson said of his father-in-law. “He has a real problem with control.”

Henderson said he would drive himself to the hospital to suture his two-inch, gaping wound.

“I’ve tried to respect my father in law,” Henderson said.

Police on the scene said Davis will be charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon/family violence.
