Standoff in Beaumont between S.W.A.T. team and man wielding knife ends peacefully

On Tuesday, September 29, 2015, at 11:39 a.m., Beaumont police officers were dispatched to the Timbers Edge apartment complex in the 1000 block of Pinchback Road in Beaumont’s west end.  According to a press release, officers learned a Silsbee man, later identified as 30 year old Eric Gipson, was armed with a knife and holding an unidentified female hostage inside an apartment. Officers attempted to make contact with Gipson, but the apartment was dead-bolted from inside. Dispatch advised BPD the female inside had been texting her mother, stating she was afraid of what Gipson might do.

Once it was clear Gipson would not answer the door or allow the female to answer, a S.W.A.T. call-out was made. Shortly after their arrival, Gipson allowed the female to exit the premises uninjured, and peacefully surrendered a short time later. He was afforded the opportunity to speak with detectives before being booked into the Jefferson County Jail on charges of terroristic threats and unlawful restraint.
