State troopers, bloodhounds at work in manhunt for suspects who made getaway in police car

Update: Sheriff Hawthorne reports at 5:27 p.m., both suspects are in custody as a result of the manhunt which began today at 2:00 p.m.

Special thanks to TPWD Game Wardens, DPS helicopters, Jefferson County Sheriff's Office helicopters, and TDCJ blood hounds. Kudos to Chambers County Sheriff's Office Deputy Croyle and canine Yoerie for their tracking and detection of the second suspect.

On Jan. 8 at about 2 p.m. a DPS Trooper radioed Chambers County Dispatch that two suspects were handcuffed and placed under arrest for a large quantity of narcotics, Sheriff Brian Hawthorne said in a statement.

While the DPS Trooper was furthering his investigation, the two suspects commandeered his police vehicle and a pursuit ensued.

Chambers County Sheriff's Office said that it appears the suspects lost control of the vehicle at I-10 and FM 1410, abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.

At this time, one suspect has been apprehended and one is still at large. A large scale manhunt is under way involving sheriff's deputies, state troopers and TDCJ bloodhounds, as well as helicopter air support from DPS and Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.
