Stolen car crashes into local residence, police searching for suspect

Police in Beaumont are searching for the suspect who was behind the wheel of a stolen car that crashed into a local residence on Aug. 30, just after children who had been at the home left for school.

Officers responded to the 5500 block of Spencer in Beaumont at 7:46 a.m. in reference to the vehicle crashing into a residence there. While on their way to the scene, dispatch advised the officers that the residence the vehicle had driven into was occupied by several children. Police officers and Beaumont firefighters arrived at the residence and began searching the wreckage for the children before learning that they had been picked up for school just moments before the accident.

The occupants of the vehicle fled on-foot prior to officers’ arrival, but officers apprehended one juvenile suspect. The vehicle, a black Mercedes sedan, had been stolen two nights earlier from a West End apartment complex. The residence sustained major damage, but no one was injured. The investigation is ongoing.
