Stolen car recovered after shots fired, car chase in Port Arthur

On Jan. 12, detectives responded to a deadly conduct call in the 2600 block of 9th Street, according to the Port Arthur Police Department (PAPD).

While PAPD was on scene, shots were fired, and a short time after the shots were heard, PAPD received a description of the suspect vehicle, PAPD spokesperson LaRisa Carpenter said in a release.

PAPD officers in the area of W. 14th Street and Dewalt Avenue visually identified the suspect vehicle. As officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the suspect vehicle fled. Officers attempted to apprehend the individual in the suspect vehicle and two PAPD vehicles were damaged in the process. However, the suspect was taken into custody and a weapon recovered.

Upon taking the suspect into custody, it was discovered the suspect vehicle was stolen out of Hardin County.

The suspect is being interviewed by detectives, along with two female juveniles who were in the suspect vehicle. The investigation is still ongoing.
