Structure fire

Firefighters doused a blaze at a home in Beaumont the morning of March 24 but not before the fire caused extensive damage to the residence.

According to a news release, just after 8:00 a.m., Beaumont Fire-Rescue units responded to a structure fire in the 5300 block of Heatherwood Drive. When firefighters arrived, they found flames licking out through the roof of the home. The lone occupant was able to escape without injury before firefighters arrived, but there was heavy fire damage to the attic and roof of the home.

The fire appears to have been caused by an electrical short in the attic, reports Beaumont Fire-Rescue.
