Sugar Land mother dies in accident resulting from blowout

A Sugar Land mother died after being thrown from her vehicle during an accident that involved a tire blowout on Interstate 10 July 23, reports Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Stephanie Davis.

According to Davis, DPS responded to a report of a one-vehicle crash in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 near mile marker 875 in Orange County at about 3:30 p.m. Investigating troopers determined that a 2005 Toyota Sienna was traveling eastbound on Interstate 10 when the vehicle experienced a blowout. The driver, identified as 41-year-old Martha Maldanoda of Sugar Land, lost control and smashed into the inside concrete barrier. She was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle, Davis reports.

Two minor children, ages 3 and 6, were properly secured in age-appropriate child safety seat systems and were not injured, but were transported by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont for observation.

All eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 were closed for more than two hours following the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
