Suspect captured in man hunt

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division and sheriff's helicopter, along with Beaumont Police Department K9 and Port Arthur Police K9, were involved in a man hunt this morning, Monday, December 7, 2015.

According to Deputy Marcus McLellan, deputies received a call in reference to a white Ford F250 being stuck in the front yard of a residence on Christopher Lane in Fannett, Texas (west of Beaumont). The residents approached the three subjects that were with the vehicle and they fled.

Once on scene, deputies ran the license plate and the vehicle was reported to be stolen out of the city of Beaumont.

Deputies searched the area and located two of the three suspects from the stolen vehicle. The third suspect ran from deputies into a wooded area near Hwy 124 and Dawn Drive. K9 units from both the Beaumont Police Department and Port Arthur Police Department were requested to track the suspect. The sheriff’s helicopter also assisted in the search.

The sheriff’s helicopter located the backpack the suspect had been wearing when he entered the woods. After searching the area, the third suspect exited the woods on Hwy 124 and was taken into custody.

There are no more details at this time.
