Suspect robs victim with toy pistol, leads police on chase

On May 1 at 9:16 a.m., officers responded to the 1100 block of McFadden Street in reference to a robbery of an individual that had just occurred, Officer Carol Riley said in a release.

The victim said she was robbed by an acquaintance and he had a gun. An officer arrived in the area and saw a man that matched the description walking toward Harrison Avenue and Oakland Street. The man ran when he saw the officer.

Officers set up a perimeter and called for a K-9. K-9 responded and began tracking. While K-9 was tracking, an officer observed the subject hiding under a set of concrete stairs in the 1300 block of Long Street. The subject was taken into custody and identified as Malcolm Renee Ross, 51, of Beaumont.

He was transported to Jefferson County Correctional Facility and booked in for aggravated robbery, evading arrest and over $6,000 worth of City of Beaumont Capias warrants.

The K-9 located a toy pistol that matched the description the victim gave and the victim’s money.
