Teacher assaulted at West-Orange Stark Alternative

A student assaulted a West Orange-Stark Alternative Campus teacher with a keyboard Thursday afternoon, reports the Orange Police Department.

According to a police report from OPD, officers were dispatched to the campus on Sept. 4 in reference to the assault. Officer Tim Pruitt met with the victim, a math teacher at the school, who told him she was attempting to assist the 13-year-old student when she was attacked. The instructor told Pruitt that just before police were called she heard the student slamming her computer keyboard and offered to help the teen. According to the teacher, that is when the student became angry, making accusations regarding grading and then striking the teacher with the keyboard on the right side of her head. According to the instructor, the student physically attacked her and then made threats to return and do her further injury.

The student was detained and taken to the Minnie Rogers Juvenile Justice Center in Beaumont. The teacher told police she would be seeking medical treatment due to pain in her head where she was struck with the keyboard.
