Teen tells police he shot himself in the foot

A teen who reported to a local emergency center for treatment of a gunshot wound told police he shot himself in the foot accidentally, reports the Pinehurst Police Department.

According to a news release from Chief Fed Hanauer, Officer J. Lockett responded to the Golden Triangle Emergency Center located at 3107 Edgar Brown Drive in West Orange on Saturday, March 2, at approximately 11:40 a.m. in reference to a shooting victim. When he arrived, he discovered that a 19 year-old male had arrived for treatment for what appeared to be a gunshot wound to his left foot. The man claimed the injury was a result of a self-inflicted accidental discharge that occurred while he was cleaning the weapon. The victim reportedly told police that he had been with friends in a vehicle traveling westbound on West Park near Camelot Drive while he was attempting to take apart his friend’s handgun, possibly a 9mm semi-automatic, when the firearm accidentally discharged striking him in his left foot.

The other occupants of the vehicle transported him to the Golden Triangle Emergency Center but left upon dropping him off. The victim refused to cooperate or offer additional details, Hanauer reported. The weapon was not recovered.
