Thief steals ring from Nederland jewelry store

Chief Darrell Bush

Police in Nederland have identified and plan to file felony theft charges against a 52-year-old Houston man for stealing an expensive ring from Keith's Custom Jewelry store on Nov. 27, reports Chief Darrell Bush.

According to a news release from Bush, a man entered the store, located at 2111 Nederland Ave., at 1:36 p.m. and asked to look at a ring. Once the clerk handed him the ring, the subject fled from the store and left the scene in a late model Jeep.

Investigators viewed surveillance video and received information on the identity of a possible suspect in the theft. With the tip, they were able to make a positive ID on the suspect.

A check of the statewide pawn shop database indicated that the suspect had pawned the ring later that day at a pawn shop in Groves. The ring has been positively identified as the same ring that was stolen in the theft.

The 52-year-old male suspect from Houston is at-large at this time. Formal felony theft charges will be filed in the near future, Bush stated.
