Thousands attend Orange County Cops N Kids

Close to 2,000 people attended Orange County’s 20th annual Cops N Kids Picnic at Claiborne Park on June 20 for some summer fun, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office reports. Children at the event were treated to tours of emergency vehicles, shown tactical equipment used by SWAT, allowed to get up close and personal with some alligators, a snake and even a tortoise, and had plenty to eat and drink from various booths set up on the park grounds. OCSO Sheriff Keith Merritt was at the event and said during the picnic he was pleased with the turnout. After the picnic, he released a statement showing his appreciation to attendees and assistants of this year’s event.“On behalf of the Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff Merritt would like to thank all who helped make the 20th annual Cops N Kids Picnic a huge success again this year,” the statement reads. “As always, the Sheriff’s Office Alumni Group, the area police departments, fire departments, EMS, Air Rescue, all who had booths set up and exhibits worked very hard to make the 20th annual picnic our best ever. … We’re already looking forward to next year!”
