Three charged, one hospitalized after evading police

On Wednesday, December 9, 2015, at approximately 10:37 a.m., a Beaumont police officer attempted to make a traffic stop on a motorist for a speeding violation.

According to officer Joe Ornelas, the driver did not stop and evaded the officer at a high rate of speed through city streets with a disregard for other drivers and traffic signs. The vehicle crashed at 850 I-10 service road. The car, a white 2004 Lexus, had been stolen in a home burglary earlier in the day (reported at 6:59 a.m.).

The car was occupied by the three black males. All 3 occupants were transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital for treatment. The driver, 17-year-old Darnell Wilson, will be admitted to the hospital for his injuries. The two passengers, 20-year-old Rain Johnson and 18-year-old Anthony Owens, were cleared and transported to jail.

The men will be charged with burglary of a residence and evading in a motor vehicle. Owens will also be charged with possession of a controlled substance.
