Three seriously injured after early morning accident on MLK

A major traffic crash seriously injured three and resulted in the arrest of one.  Patrol Division Officers responded to the intersection of M.L.K. @ Franklin on Friday morning, 12/09/11 at 2:28 AM.  Their investigation revealed that a 2008 Chevrolet pick-up truck was struck from behind by a 2011 Mazda 3 passenger vehicle as they were traveling southbound on M.L.K.  The truck was occupied by two passengers in the bed, two passengers in the back seat, and four passengers in the front seat.  The impact caused the driver of the truck to lose control.  The truck flipped and rolled ejecting the passengers in the bed. 

Because of the crash, three occupants of the truck suffered serious bodily injury.  A 22-year-old male form Port Neches, a 21-year-old male from Groves, and a 19-year-old male from Jasper were all transported to Christus St. Elizabeth ER for treatment. 

The driver of the Mazda, Justin Simmons, date of birth 08/02/1990, of Beaumont was arrested and booked into the Jefferson County Detention Facility for three counts of Intoxication Assault, a third degree felony.
