Three-vehicle crash on Rainbow Bridge sends three to hospital

A three-vehicle crash on the Rainbow Bridge in Bridge City Tuesday, May 19, resulted in three drivers being transported to the hospital.

At approximately 11 a.m., a 2007 GMC passenger vehicle, driven by 57 -year-old Patricia Owens, of Beaumont, stalled on the Rainbow Bridge, according to a press release from the Texas Department of Public Safety. Fifty-seven-year-old Byron Cormier, of Beaumont, was traveling westbound in his 2009 Hino flatbed truck on the Rainbow Bridge and stopped behind the disabled vehicle.  The driver of a 2013 GMC pickup truck, 30-year-old Thomas Thompson, of Jasper, was also traveling westbound on the Rainbow Bridge, and failed to control his speed, colliding with the rear of the Hino Flatbed truck. The impact of the collision pushed the Hino truck into the rear of Owens' vehicle.

Owens was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital with minor injuries, Cormier was transported to Baptist Hospital with minor injuries and Thompson was transported to St. Elizabeth with non-life threatening injuries.

Thompson was cited for failure to control speed, the press release stated.

The Rainbow Bridge was closed for a short period immediately following the crash but reopened at 11:30 a.m.
