Traffic stop leads to drug arrest in stolen car

Jason Wright

Police say one man is in custody who might be connected to an aggravated robbery in Harris County.

According to a press release, on Wednesday, June 5, at about 1:30 a.m., BPD patrol officers stopped a man they identified as 27-year-old Jason Wright of Beaumont during a routine traffic stop. Upon further investigation, officers discovered Wright had numerous citations for no license, and the gold color Chevy Cavalier he was driving was stolen in an aggravated robbery in the Houston area.

Officer Carol Riley said the incident is still under investigation as Wright denied stealing the vehicle.

“We don’t know if he’s the one who stole it or not,” she said.

Riley said police became suspicious when they realized the VIN plates on the vehicle had been switched.

After completing a search of the vehicle, police found powder cocaine and marijuana, the press release said.

Wright was booked in the Jefferson County Jail for possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and driving without a license.

His bond has not yet been set.
