Troopers, police search for fleeing suspect

State troopers and other law enforcement officers caught up with and arrested a suspect who fled during a traffic stop in Orange on March 17, reports Department of Public Safety (DPS) Trooper David Hendry.

According to Hendry, DPS troopers attempted to stop a 2001 Mitsubishi Galant on S.H. 87 north of Orange at approximately 6:45 a.m., but the driver of the vehicle failed to halt. He continued to evade officers, traveling southbound on S.H. 87 until they spiked the vehicle’s tires.

The driver, identified as Shane Douglass Blessing, 21, from Lake Charles, Louisiana, fled on foot and was briefly taken into custody, but then escaped officers and again ran away. Blessing fled toward the 6900 block of 16th Street just North of F.M. 3247. Law enforcement officers with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, the Orange Police Department, the West Orange Police Department and DPS troopers continued to search the area for Blessing at the time of a news release sent out on March 17 at 10:10 a.m., but caught up with the escapee a short time later. By 10:35 a.m., Blessing was back in custody and on his way to the Orange County Jail.
