Two accidents, two injuries in early morning crashes

After being struck from behind while driving his truck during an early morning accident in Orange County, a 77-year-old Louisiana man attempting to direct traffic around the wreck was then struck by another vehicle.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), dispatchers received a report of a two-vehicle crash on Highway 62 near Cohenour Road in Orange County at approximately 6:20 a.m. A 2015 Dodge pickup truck towing a trailer was traveling northbound on Highway 62 when the driver, identified as Esteban Medina, slowed to make a left turn onto Cohenour Road. The vehicle was struck from behind by a GMC pickup truck.

The driver of the GMC, Jarrod Seago, 30, of Orange, was transported to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont with serious leg injuries.

Medina was not injured in that crash; however, he was injured in a separate crash at the scene.

After being struck from behind by the GMC truck, Medina got out of his vehicle to direct traffic and was struck by a Ford pickup truck traveling southbound on Highway 62. Medina was also transported to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital. DPS reorts his injuries do not appear to be life threatening.

The 53-year-old driver of the Ford pickup truck that struck Medina was not injured.

The two separate crashes are still under investigation.

In a news release, the Orange County Sheriff's Office revealed that Seago is a Corrections Officer at the Orange County Correctional Facility and had just gotten off of work heading home when the crash occurred. Seago sustained multiple injuries in the crash, reports OCSO, the extent of which are not known at this time.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the crash.
