Two arrests in Dugood bank robbery

Gregory White and Joseph Carter

Two Beaumont men are behind bars following a bank robbery at the Dugood Federal Credit Union on July 27, reports the Beaumont Police Department.

According to a news release from Officer Haley Morrow, officers responded to the credit union at 7505 Eastex Freeway in Beaumont at 9:37 a.m. When officers arrived, they quickly obtained descriptions of the suspect and suspect vehicle reportedly involved in the bank robbery and disseminated the information to Beaumont patrol officers and detectives.

A short time after the robbery, two Beaumont detectives located the suspect vehicle in the area of Magnolia and East Lucas. When the detectives approached the vehicle, one suspect fled on foot while the other suspect remained inside the vehicle. That suspect, identified as Gregory White, a 48-year-old Beaumont man, was detained. White was also found to be in possession of crack cocaine.

Officers established a perimeter around the wooded area north of East Lucas and Magnolia and attempted to use police K-9 units and other resources to track the second suspect. While tracks were being made, Beaumont detectives who were canvassing the area of East Lucas and Helbig located the second suspect. He was identified as Joseph Carter, a 38-year-old Beaumont man, and was taken into custody.

Beaumont detectives are investigating the case in conjunction with the FBI. Carter was transported to the LaSalle Correctional Facility, where he was booked in on a federal bank robbery charge. White was transported to the Jefferson County Jail, where he was booked in on possession of a controlled substance.
