Two suspects tried to pass forged checks, but were quickly caught by bank employees and police after a short chase.

According to a BPD press release, officers responded to the Community Bank in the 6300 block of Phelan to find bank clerks who said two men had attempted to cash fraudulent checks.

When officers arrived and began to question the men, one of them refused to cooperate with police and fled from the bank. Officers caught up to the suspect, a man they identified as Clyde S. Porter, 30, of Houston and booked him into the Jefferson County Jail on one count of forgery, one count of resisting arrest and one count of evading arrest, with bonds of $10,500, $250 and $250, respectively.

Police say the other man who tried to pass a fraudulent check did not run and later identified him as Lawrence B. Zeno, 42, of Houston. He was booked into the Jefferson County Jail for forgery, according to the press release.

Zeno's bond is set at $7,500.
