Two fatalities in Hardin County crash on US 69

At approximately 2:30p.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) received a report of a two vehicle crash on US 69 in Hardin County. The crash occurred approximately one mile south of Highway 327.

A 2004 Ford pickup truck was traveling northbound on US 69. A 1997 Chevrolet pickup truck was traveling southbound on US 69. For an unknown reason, the driver of the Ford crossed the center dividing line and struck the Chevrolet pickup truck head-on.

The driver of the Chevrolet pickup truck, 32-year-old Johnny Ray Lee II of Nederland, was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Jackie Werner. The driver of the Ford pickup truck, Eric Wayne Henserling of Colmesneil, was also pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Jackie Werner.

The northbound lane of US 69 has reopened. This lane will be used to alternate northbound and southbound traffic until the southbound has been cleared of crash debris. Motorists are urged to slow down for emergency vehicles and use caution while traveling in the area. Expect delays.

All information is preliminary as troopers work to determine the exact factors that contributed to this fatal crash.
