Unidentified man found in Neches River

Orange and Jefferson county sheriff’s offices are conducting a death investigation after a body was discovered in the Neches River near the Purple Heart Memorial Bridge this past weekend.

According to the report from the OCSO, the body was found Sunday, May 5 behind Gerdau Steel Mill near the Port of Beaumont. Orange County Justice of the Peace Precinct 2 Judge Derry Dunn ordered an autopsy.

The body was transferred to the Jefferson County Forensic Medical Facility where the autopsy was performed. According to the forensic pathologist, the cause and manner of death was not able to be determined at the time of the autopsy due to the decomposed condition of the victim. The doctor advised that toxicology and other tests would be done to try to determine the cause and manner of death and to identify the deceased.

The victim is a white male of undetermined age. Deputy Chad Hogan said the man was wearing a bracelet that could help investigators identify him. The bracelet was white rubber and read, “I’m sexy and I know it LMFAO.” The unidentified man was also wearing size 12 white Adidas. No additional information was available as of Wednesday, May 8.

If anyone has any information on the victim or if you recognize the bracelet in the photograph please contact the Orange County Sheriff’s Office at 883-2612.
