Update 3/16: I -10 Closed again

Traffic is currently backed up into Port Arthur and through Pleasure Island and into Louisiana due to an emergency on the MLK bridge on SH 82. The MLK bridge could possibly be closed. Expect delays.

Update: 3/16: Eastbound lanes of I-10 were closed early Wednesday at the Texas-Louisiana state line as rising floodwaters from excessive rainfall covered the interstate. Louisiana officials had halted westbound traffic earlier on Tuesday when water from the swollen Sabine River went across those lanes on the Texas side. Motorists heading eastbound to Louisiana should use I-20 as an alternate route. For those traveling on I-10 from:

  • El Paso take I-20 East of Van Horn
  • San Antonio take I-35 North to I-20 East to Shreveport
  • Houston take US 59 North to I-20 East to Shreveport
  • Beaumont take US 96 North to US 69 North to US 59 North to I-20 East to Shreveport

Drivers can NOT access Louisiana by SH 63 or SH 12.

Update: According to TxDOT, I-10 East has now been re-opened. TxDOT Public Information Officer Sarah Dupre made the announcement around 11:40 a.m. Tuesday. According to Dupre, TxDOT is monitoring situation with flood waters from Sabine River. While I-10 is currently open, it could be closed on short notice. TxDOT recommends long haul travel to use I-20 instead of I-10

Rising water on I-10 near Sabine River in Orange required closure of I-10 east bound around 9 a.m. Tuesday morning, March 15. I-10 eastbound traffic is being detoured north in Beaumont on Hwy 69 and at Hwy 62 in Orange County and requiring motorists to use 59 North through Carthage, Marshall, and Atlanta to cross into Louisiana via Shreveport, using I-20. This detour could add three to four hours drive time depending on your destination.
