UPDATE: Jefferson County District Attorney Cory Crenshaw responds to the TEA announcement of a takeover recommendation.

"We would like to take this opportunity to let the community know that now is the time for those who have knowledge of wrongdoing at the school district and wrongdoing themselves to come forward," Crenshaw stated. "We are asking that all individuals with knowledge of criminal activity at BISD to meet with us, tell the truth, and agree to cooperate.

"Change within this school district is imminent, and this opportunity will hopefully allow for swift justice."

The Examiner spoke to state Rep. Joe Deshotel, who said he received a text from Commissioner Michael Williams of the Texas Education Agency on Tuesday, April 1, that TEA investigators recommended a takeover of the Beaumont Independent School District.

Commissioner Williams will be in Beaumont on Thursday, April 3, to meet with the Board of Trustees and the superintendent to allow them to make a case as to why he should not take his staff's recommendations.

Desohotel said it was clear from the commissioner that he had not made a final decision yet but would on Thursday after his meeting.

BISD

I sincerely believe that the community as a whole is ready for a take-over. W.Reese made it plain in the Enterprise. He said "no change is needed it is just a problem of race". With this attitude it certainly will never work. NO one on this board is qualified to operate a business the size of this school district. No wonder the check books had not been balanced. Lets do it NOW and get on with the education of our children.

BISD

I want to know if Chargois and any of his management team get a severance package when they are escorted out the door. The board of managers doesn't need to be a political appointee. I think TEA needs to advertise for the job(s) and do the interviews themselves for these replacements. There are plenty of QUALIFIED people in SETX that can take over the various departments and put in best practices in their respective areas. At the administrative level this is a business and should follow business practices that are legally and financially sound.

Justice!

Only a TEA takeover, housecleaning, criminal prosecution, and eventual return to an elected board can rebuild the rightly shattered confidence in BISD.

Too many people want to say

Too many people want to say they are speaking for the black community. No they are not. The magority of the black community is silent. The want change.

Stay in your lane.. NOW...

TEA needs to come take over BISD. Mr. Williams visit with administration and the board will be a continuation the same puppet show that has been going. Joe Desotel should have no say in selecting or nomination of new school board members. Where was he when the pot was boiling. Nobody wanted to be involved.. remember city council members, county leaders. Please allow fresh new people to come in and run the district. YES TEACHERS ARE SUFFERING and student are suffering. Politicians stay in your place.. Now. Minister also stay in your place.

EDUCATION remains the key to both economic and political empowerment.

The takeover can't come fast

The takeover can't come fast enough. I don't know why he needs to meet with the board. All they're going to do is lie and say whatever it takes for the district not to be taken over. Mr. Williams, please put us all out of our misery and approve the takeover.

I'm calling Shenanigans!

I'm calling Shenanigans! Links? Press releases? Why would he say he is taking over the BISD then say he is coming to ask them why he shouldn't? Either TEA IS taking over or they are not.

He (assuming you mean Mr.

He (assuming you mean Mr. Williams) did not say he was taking over. The TEA recommended that he put aboard of managers in place and remove the superintendent. His visit was the next step before determining how to respond to the recommendations. It is my understanding that he did the same thing in at least two other school districts, before deciding to oust them. Patience...I can't believe how little attention anyone paid over the past several years; and now everybody is in a big hurry.
