Vidor announces nominee for police chief

Rod Carroll

Vidor City Manager Mike Kunst announced Nov. 18 that he has nominated Rod Carroll as the next chief of police for the city of Vidor, replacing Chief Dave Shows, whose last official day coincides with the announcement of the city’s nominee.

The Vidor City Council scheduled a special-called meeting for Monday, Nov. 21, at which time it unanimously approved Carroll’s selection as the city's new chief.

Carroll is currently the assistant deputy chief and public information officer for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. Carroll was named one of four finalists from the 20 applicants who were interested in the vacancy created by the Shows’ retirement.

Shows is a 36-year Vidor Police Department veteran who has been the police chief for the past six years. Carroll’s first day as the new Vidor police chief is yet to be determined pending Monday’s vote.

Vidor City Council meetings are held at Vidor City Hall at 1395 N. Main St. in Vidor.
