Vidor toddler drowns in pond

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed the death of a toddler who drowned after falling into a small pond at a Vidor residence yesterday evening, May 5.

According to Deputy Janois Strause Grizzaffi, deputies with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office were called to the 1500 block of Terry Road in Vidor at about 8 p.m. in reference to an accident involving a two-year-old child. On arrival, deputies found that the toddler had fallen into a small pond in the yard at his home. CPR was being performed on the child, and a medical helicopter was called for assistance. The child was flown to St. Elizabeth hospital in Beaumont and was later pronounced deceased, reports Grizzaffi.

Family members told deputies that the boy had been playing with another sibling inside the house. A short time later, they did not see the child and began looking for him. They discovered him in the pond outside the house. “Our thoughts and prayers are with this family during this difficult time,” Grizzaffi stated.
