WANTED: Police searching for second suspect in capital murder of convenience store clerk

Police have identified and are currently searching for a second suspect in the capital murder of Mettha (Metthananda) Kuruppu, the convenience store clerk who was shot and killed while working at the Pick N Shop located at 870 S. Major Dr. in Beaumont on April 29, reported the Beaumont Police Department on May 7. A warrant was issued for 19-year-old John David Sean Johnson, aka "Shawn," of Beaumont, for Kuruppu's capital murder. His bond has been set at $2 million.

Sources close to BPD indicate Johnson was planning to turn himself May 6 but failed to present to police. He was tracked down to a local residence and surrounded but escaped out of the back door of the house. Officers are currently on the ground searching for Johnson. They reportedly have possession of his vehicle but are trying to determine his whereabouts. Police ask that anyone with information regarding Johnson's location contact Crime Stoppers at  (409) 833-TIPS (84770.
