A Hillister crash between an 18-wheeler and a pickup truck sent a Warren man to a Houston hospital with serious injuries, Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Stephanie Davis reports.

According to Davis, DPS received a report of a two-vehicle accident on US-69 in Hillister at approximately 11:15 a.m. A 1996 Peterbuilt truck tractor semi-trailer was traveling northbound on US-69 near FM 1013 when a 2009 Ford pickup truck reportedly pulled out from the parking lot of a convenience store in front of the 18-wheeler and was struck.  Both vehicles traveled across the southbound lanes of US 69 before coming to rest on the shoulder of the highway.

The driver of the Ford pickup truck, Earl Ray Seals, 86, of Warren, was transported by medical helicopter to Herman Memorial Hospital in Houston. Seals was in serious condition when transported, and later died as a result of his injuries.

The driver of the 18-wheeler, Jose Seledon, 52, of Onalaska, was not injured in the crash.

At the time of the release, 1:23 p.m. May 6, US 69 near FM 1013 was closed in both directions, and northbound and southbound traffic was rerouted around the crash scene. Lanes reopened at about 4:30 p.m.
