Wienerschnitzel has signed a long-term lease on the former Jack in the Box freestanding building at 190 S. Main Street in Lumberton. The announcement was made by Debbie Cowart, sales agent at Coldwell Banker Commercial, the real estate company marketing the property.

“This is an existing location that has a lot of improvements to it,” Cowart said. The building will be converted into a similar-style prototype of a Wienerschnitzel restaurant, she said.

Currently, the Galardi Group, the parent company of Wienerschnitzel, is working with the city of Lumberton for permitting and construction, Cowart said. If everything goes smoothly, construction is expected to begin within the next 60 days and the restaurant is expected to open in the fourth-quarter of this year, she said.

“We’re greatly excited that they are coming to Lumberton,” said Sandra Womack, executive director of the Lumberton Chamber of Commerce, who said Wienerschnitzel is one of several new restaurants opening in Lumberton. Schlotzsky’s and Mi Pueblo will also be opening soon, and Boutte’s Boudin just built and opened a new location in Lumberton the middle of June. “The city of Lumberton solely survives on sales tax dollars, so (these are) great revenue sources for the community, along with bringing … new eating establishments for everyone.”

Attracting new restaurants like Wienerschnitzel to the city are part of a continuing upward trend of economic growth for Lumberton, which continues to see a rising population as well.

Lumberton’s population increased 35.2 percent between 2000 – 2010 with over 3,100 new residents moving to the city within that time period, according to 2010 U.S. census data.

“We’re a good city to be a part of,” Womack said. “This not only helps Lumberton, but you have people from Woodville and Jasper that come down to come to Beaumont to go to the doctor. This just gives them an added place to spend their money inside the city of Lumberton.”

Weinerschnitzel has been in business for over 50 years, operating over 300 stores nationwide — some franchise operations and some owned and operated by corporate, Cowart said.

“This store will be a corporate store,” she said. “There are two other locations in the area, in Beaumont on Dowlen Road and in Orange on MacArthur Drive. In fact, I was raised on Weinerschnitzel in the Orange store location that has been in the same real estate for 40 plus years!”

Wienerschnitzel specializes in hot dogs and is known as the World’s Largest Hot Dog Chain.

The Galardi Group operates and franchises Wienerschnitzel quick-service restaurants in California, Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Louisiana, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah, and Washington. Outside the 50 states, there is a store located in Guam and one in Panama.
