Young boy killed in Valentine's Day accident
Beaumont police say a 2-year-old boy was struck by a vehicle on Valentine's Day, Feb. 14 and later died.
According to a press release, the youngster was playing in his driveway in the 8100 block of Lawrence Drive when he ran down the driveway and into the street.
Police say a 44-year-old woman traveling eastbound in her black Nissan Sentra did not see the child as he ran into the street and she struck the child at an unknown speed.
The child was transported by Beaumont EMS to St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Beaumont and soon after he was life-flighted to Texas Children's Hospital in Houston where he was in critical condition as of about 11 p.m. Friday night, Feb. 14.
The youngster was unable to recover however, and later died on Sunday, Feb. 16 at about 6 a.m, according to a press release.
Police identified the deceased 2-year-old as Christopher Stelly III of Beaumont.
No charges have been filed by police, according Officer Carol Riley of BPD.
"This was traumatic for all parties involved," Riley said in the press release. "Please keep everyone in your thoughts and prayers."
