Repair work is underway on 28 homes in Jefferson and Orange Counties that were damaged during Hurricane Harvey two years ago, including one home that will be completely rebuilt.

The Port Arthur Police Department reported the agency was called to the scene of a fatal auto-pedestrian wreck in the early morning hours of Oct. 10.

At about 3:15 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 3000 block of Savannah Avenue in reference to an auto-pedestrian accident. Upon arrival, officers found a 40-year-old male cyclist had been struck and killed and the suspect had fled the scene.

A 39-year-old Beaumont man has been indicted for child pornography violations in the Eastern District of Texas, announced U.S. Attorney Joseph D. Brown on Oct.3.
Brandon Michael Wyatt was named in a three-count indictment returned by a federal grand jury on Oct. 2, charging him with possession of child pornography, distribution of child pornography, and receipt of child pornography.

Entergy Texas crews are on the scene making repairs to a utility pole that was struck during a collision. The Beaumont Police Department said a black SUV struck a pole on the Eastex service road near Home Depot, breaking the pole causing utility lines to fall. The lines were struck by an 18-wheeler and caused an outage in the nearby vicinity.

The service road will likely be shut down as repairs are made with an estimated restoration time of about 7 p.m.

Sept. 30, at about 4 p.m., officers with the Port Arthur Police Department were dispatched to the 800 block of Orange Avenue in reference to an assault. Upon arrival, they discovered a 33-year-old Beaumont woman had been assaulted and sustained serious bodily injury. The victim was transported by ambulance to St. Elizabeth hospital where she was listed in stable condition.

As the rains from Tropical Storm Imelda recede and the damage from the storm comes into focus, Entergy Texas is announcing $350,000 in charitable contributions to help rebuild the communities it serves.

According to the probable cause affidavit of Jefferson County District Attorney Investigator Marcelo Molfino and Houston Inestigator V. Lagunas, 74-year-old James T. White "intentionally, knowingly or recklessly" committed the felony offense resulting in the indictments on Oct. 9, 2017, "by aiding someone or observing them in the commission of these crimes; permitting these crimes to occur on property owned by the person; and advertising or accepting an animal with the intent to commit these crimes."

Dreams do come true as demonstrated so vividly on Tuesday, Sept. 24, at the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office firing range in when Sheriff Bobby Rader fulfilled the dream of 8-year-old Issac “Bubba” Ivey by swearing him in as an Honorary Special Response Team (SRT) member.

Shortly after 4 p.m. Sept. 17, the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office received information reporting the finding of a child’s body in a wooded area off CR 142 in south Liberty County. Sheriff’s lead Investigator James R. McQueen responded and along with other Sheriff’s personnel located the skeletal remains in a shallow grave.

Chambers County Sheriff Brian Hawthorne reported that on Sept. 21, just after midnight, law enforcement agencies were notified of an aggravated robbery that had taken place at a hotel in Winnie. The victim advised that he and his family were staying at the hotel after his home flooded from Tropical Storm Imelda.
