During an operation by the Jefferson County Narcotics Task Force, in partnership with the Criminal Interdiction Team, on May 7, a Houston woman was arrested.

A uniformed deputy conducted a stop on a white Chevrolet Malibu after observing several traffic violations. The deputy immediately recognized the female driver from a previous stop, which had resulted in the discovery of a large amount of currency and drugs. A K-9 unit was called to the scene and displayed a positive narcotics response on the vehicle.

In the early morning hours of May 7, Beaumont police officers received a call to Bedford Townhomes regarding a shooting.

Arriving officers found a man inside the apartment suffering from several gunshot wounds. He was transported by Beaumont EMS to a local hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

An Orange woman was killed May 3 after stepping into the path of an oncoming truck.

The incident took place at about 8:30 p.m. near the intersection of Highway 62 and FM 105. Texas Department of Public Safety troopers were called to the scene in reference to an auto-pedestrian accident.

The initial reports show a GMC pickup truck was traveling northbound on Highway 62. A pedestrian, identified as Cindy Williams, 56, was standing in the turn lane and walked into the path of the truck. The driver was unable to avoid hitting her.

A man who was found guilty in March of indecency with a child by exposure by a Jefferson County jury was sentenced to 15 years incarceration on May 6 by Judge John Stevens.

Information presented by the district attorney's office showed Juan Manuel Alameda Fernandez, 57, had exposed himself to two girls, ages 9 and 12, on June 25, 2018, as the girls attempted to catch a stray cat in a neighboring yard. The two heard Fernandez call to them from inside his bedroom window. When the looked, they saw Fernandez naked and masturbating while making eye contact with them.

Following a two month investigation, the Jefferson County Narcotics Task Forcce conducted a narcotics operation that netted two arrests and 600 grams of meth.

The Port Arthur Police Department was dispatched to the Turtle Creek Apartments in reference to a reported stabbing. 

Upon arrival, officers found a suspect went to the female victim's apartment and confronted her about another male being inside her home. It was reported that he forcefully pushed her against a wall while wielding a knife. During the altercation, the victim was cut with the knife and sustained a small laceration to the arm.

On May 6, at about 2:30 a.m., Beaumont police officers responded to a single vehicle crash in the 2300 block of Interstate 10 eastbound service road. A responding officer found a vehicle in the grass in front of Coastal Welding Supply and inside located two small children in the back seat crying. The female driver was deceased on the scene. The officer took the children to a safe location until EMS arrived and took over care.

A former senior correctional officer at the Federal Correctional Complex in Beaumont was indicted May 1 on charges that he used unlawful force on an inmate and then submitted a false incident report.

According to the indictment, Tavoris Bottley, 33, was working at the complex on June 8, 2017, when he assaulted an inmate by punching the inmate in the head three times. The defendant then allegedly submitted an incident report that omitted these punches and falsely cited the inmate for attempting to assault staff.

A 20-year-old Port Arthur man was indicted by a federal grand jury in the Eastern District of Texas for the armed robbery of a Beaumont business.

Jamon Roshaud Brooks was named in a two-count indictment charging him with Hobbs Act robbery and brandishing a firearm during the a crime of violence. The indictment was returned by the grand jury on May 1.

The indictment alleges that on Dec. 21, 2018, Brooks weilded a firearm while robbing a business located on Stillwater Drive in Beaumont, which engaged in, and affected interstate commerce, in violation of the Hobbs Act.

On May 3, at about 8:30 a.m., Beaumont police officers responded to Longshoreman's Hall in reference to a disturbance that led to an aggravated assault with a knife. 

Upon their arrival, witnesses told officers a man had been stabbed and thrown in a nearby dumpster. Fire and EMs responders found a 52-year-old victim, described as transient, and transported him to a local hospital.
