Police say they’ve caught the suspect responsible for kidnapping a woman and her children before he sexually assaulted the mother of two.

According to a BPD press release, Dijon V. Cooper, 20, of Beaumont, was detained Friday, Sept. 20 for a Sept. 11 aggravated kidnapping that began at the Elmo Willard Library on East Lucas Drive in Beaumont. Police say that’s when Cooper abducted a 36-year-old female who was just leaving the library with her newborn and 1-year-old child.

Boo Boo

A 53-year-old Port Arthur man who goes by the name "Boo Boo" made the mistake of being seen by police after stealing a flat screen television from a Third Street home Sept. 22.

Sunday evening around 5:30 p.m., police spotted a man on a bicycle carrying a small flat screen television in the 3600 block of Procter Street in Port Arthur.

A Port Arthur man was shot early Saturday morning, Sept. 21 in what Port Arthur Police are calling an aggravated assault.

Nederland Police found a woman dead at her residence Friday afternoon, Sept. 20., in what police say appears to have been an accident.

Nederland Police Chief Darrell Bush said police are uncertain about the specifics of how the woman died but found her hanging by her shirt from the fence in her yard.

"She may have slipped and fallen and gotten her shirt caught up in the picket fence," Bush said.

An 18-wheeler that overturned around noon Friday caused Port Arthur Police to close the portion of 73 east from State Highway 82 to U.S. Highway 69.  The U.S. 69 South exit to 73 East is also closed, according to a press release by TxDOT.

Both may remain closed past 6 p.m. Friday evening, said TxDOT Public Information Officer Sarah Dupre.

The Port Arthur Fire Department Arson Division is investigating a fire that broke out at a two-story apartment in Port Arthur Friday morning, Sept. 20. The apartment, located in the 1900 block of 10th Avenue, caught on fire around 7:15 a.m., said PAFD Battalion Chief Mike Free.

A fire broke out at an abandoned building, formerly Hadley's Furniture warehouse, at the corner of McFaddin Avenue and Forrest Street in Beaumont around 11:15 p.m. Wednesday night, Sept. 18. 

Beaumont Fire Captain Earl White, who is investigating the incident, confirmed the fire was started deliberately.
