The weather April 26-28 made for a soggy first weekend of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, more commonly known as Jazz Fest, but festivalgoers still managed to have a good time. Here’s hoping for beautifully cool and sunny weather right here in Beaumont for the Jazz & Blues Fest on Saturday, May 18, at Crockett Street Entertainment District. With the purchase of one $10 ticket, guests can hear 14 different bands all in one area. Funds raised go to support the Museum of the Gulf Coast.

Police in Orange arrested Jason Ray Bowsher of West Lake, La. for multiple charges April 28, after an altercation with an officer.

According to news released by the Orange Police Department on May 1, on Thursday, April 25, 2013, officers from the OPD Narcotics Division executed a search warrant at 3819 Meeks Dr. Apt. L7. Officers seized two grams of crack cocaine, one Hydrocodone pill, and two vials of anabolic steroids.  Officers also found a .45 caliber pistol.  Cody Dwayne Janice, 22, was arrested and taken to the Orange County Jail.

Police say Taylor Fannin's truck was headed north on Labelle Road.

Police have found the man they say lost control of his truck and ended up in a pasture near Labelle Road in southern Beaumont.

BPD spokesman Rob Flores said officers found 21-year-old Taylor Fannin's white 2008 Toyota pickup about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 1.

Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies are searching for a dangerous fugitive, 23-year-old Carlos Efren Rodriguez. He is wanted for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and should be considered armed and dangerous. No attempt should be made to detain him.

The 2013 quarter horse season will begin Friday, April 26, at Delta Downs in nearby Vinton, La., with a first post time of 6:45 p.m. After this weekend, live racing will occur Wednesday-Saturday.

Opening weekend is full of action as April 26 will see two stakes races and two sets of trials for the Old South Derby with 18 horses competing in Races 4-5, and those with the Top 10 fastest times will move on to the May 18final.
