Mobiloil Credit Union announced Friday, June 2, that 58 students in Greg Sholls Economic classes at Central High School were certified through the Smart Change Scholars’ Program. Melanie Pharis, Economic Teacher at Early College High School, certified 52 students. These students completed financial literacy modules that teach the importance of saving, credit scores, financing college education and home ownership.

On May 30 at 11:10 p.m., a Beaumont police officer was patrolling in the area of 7th Street and I-10 East when he observed a silver PT Cruiser run a stop sign, Officer Haley Morrow said in a release.

May 30 at about 11:40 a.m., Beaumont police responded to a residence in the 4400 block of Ector Avenue in reference to a burglary in progress, in which the caller stated the suspect had a gun, Officer Haley Morrow said in a release.

As officers arrived, the suspect attempted to exit the house but retreated back inside. Additional police units established a perimeter around the residence. Several attempts to contact the suspect inside were made; however, they were unsuccessful.

Detective Robert Ener, a 29-year veteran of the Beaumont Police Department who had been battling cancer, passed away over the weekend on May 28 at age 59, reports the department. 

In a statement, BPD remembered the long-time officer and brother in blue, and thanked the community for reaching out to help with medical expenses during a benefit held for Ener earlier this year.

On May 28 at about 12:30 p.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) responded to a one vehicle rollover crash on I-10 near FM 365 in Jefferson County, Sgt. Stephanie Davis said in a release.

All three high school campuses of the Beaumont Independent School District will host graduation ceremonies at the Lamar University Montagne Center, 4400 MLK Parkway in Beaumont, on Saturday, June 3. For those who cannot be there in person, the district will also host all three ceremonies live online for remote viewing at https://livestream.com/BISDTV.

BISD reports that West Brook High School will graduate at 9 a.m., Central Medical Magnet High School will graduate at 1 p.m., and Ozen Magnet High School will graduate at 5 p.m.
