Earlier this month, the Beaumont Bulls youth football team kneeled in protest during the national anthem, following the lead of NFL player Colin Kaepernick.

The 11- and 12-year-old boys first kneeled during a game on Sept. 10, prompting death threats on KFDM’s Facebook page and other social media sites.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office says a chemical spill into Willow Marsh Bayou has been contained and that work to remove the solvent from the bayou is ongoing, and the area should be avoided during cleanup operations.

A resident on the west side of Beaumont reported a gas smell to Beaumont Fire-Rescue around 4:30 a.m. on Sept. 23. A search traced the source back to the GE Betz facility.

Police in Beaumont arrested an 18-year-old suspect wanted on warrants related to three separate burglaries in the Gross Street neighborhood, reports Beaumont Police Department (BPD) Officer Haley Walters.

According to Walters, the warrants for Austin Davis’ arrest were issued Friday, Sept. 16. On Sept. 22, officers went to the 9100 block of Gross at about 2 p.m. to serve the warrants and took Davis into custody.

Davis was transported to the Jefferson County Jail. His bonds total $75,000.

Police in Beaumont arrested a 51-year-old Beaumont man Sept. 20 when the man fled the scene of a traffic stop and then, once cornered, threatened officers with a grenade, reports Officer Haley Walters of the Beaumont Police Department (BPD).

Troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) are investigating a one-vehicle accident that injured an elderly Plano resident, Sgt. Stephanie Davis reported in a news release Sept. 21.

According to Davis, at approximately 8:15 a.m., DPS received a report of a one-vehicle rollover crash on Highway 105 in Hardin County. The crash occurred near the Little Hawks Daycare Center, which is approximately two miles east of Sour Lake.

The Jefferson County grand jury indicted 9th Court of Appeals employee Charlsie Rebecca Jones in the murder of her husband, Lee Matthew Jones, according to information from the District Attorney’s Office presented Wednesday, Sept. 21.
