This Saturday, October 3, 2015, the City of Beaumont will host a Fire Prevention and Family Safety Festival downtown at the Fire Museum of Texas, at 400 Walnut.

Local residents are encouraged to bring their families to the festival at the “big fire hydrant,” where adults and children alike can receive valuable information on how to protect oneself and one’s family. There will be free food and “lots of free stuff.”

Effective October 1, 2015 the Jefferson County Jail will no longer be collecting municipal bonds or fines for the City of Beaumont.

Beaumont municipal bonds and fines will be collected at the Municipal Court at 700 Orleans Street.

Persons posting bond or paying fines to have someone released from jail will need to go to the door on the Forsythe side and push the 911 button for assistance, and must know the defendant’s name and date of birth. The exact amount must be paid in cash only, as no change will be given.

On Tuesday, September 29, 2015, at 11:39 a.m., Beaumont police officers were dispatched to the Timbers Edge apartment complex in the 1000 block of Pinchback Road in Beaumont’s west end.  According to a press release, officers learned a Silsbee man, later identified as 30 year old Eric Gipson, was armed with a knife and holding an unidentified female hostage inside an apartment.

The Jefferson County Fugitive Warrant Division is requesting the community’s assistance in locating a dangerous fugitive. Tyaus Roy Wells, 18, is wanted in a series of robberies in the Avenues Area of Beaumont. The crimes have become more aggressive, according to the sheriff’s office. The latest crime, which occurred in the 2100 Block of Victoria, involved a firearm and beating requiring hospitalization of the victim with a broken jaw, broken eye socket and numerous lacerations.
