This week, Crime Stoppers needs your help in locating five fugitives wanted for drug charges.

Crime Stoppers is asking for the public’s assistance in getting potentially dangerous dope dealers and drug users, along with the poisonous products they carry, off the streets. To that end, The Examiner will feature a list of five persons accused of drug-related crimes each week in High Five.

“Crime Stoppers and The Examiner are teaming up to fight the drug problem in Southeast Texas,” Beaumont Police Officer Carol Riley of Crime Stoppers said.

Police in Vidor responding to a call reporting a sexual assault at a residence there arrested three individuals on warrants and drug-related charges, and discovered multiple concealed marijuana plants growing inside the house, reports the Vidor Police Department (VPD).

On the heels of the victim’s autopsy report, finalized Dec. 2, a Jefferson County grand jury has elected not to pursue charges against a Beaumont police officer involved in shooting a man outside a bar in October.

According to information from the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office, on Dec. 7 the grand jury “declined to take action in the officer involved shooting of Chaz York, ruling it to be justified.”

The body of a missing Orange woman was discovered Dec. 1 along the side of a Louisiana highway rolled tightly in carpet, reports Cameron Parish Sheriff’s Office, and investigators are working to determine what happened to her and how she got there.

Sept. 10, 2016, family of Christie Lynn Combs, 44, told officers with the Orange Police Department they were searching for her after not hearing from her since early June.

Faulty equipment at Beaumont Independent School District’s Marshall Middle School was the cause of a poisonous gas leak that sent numerous students to the hospital for medical treatment earlier this year, according to a report released by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

Helen Cox told police that she gambled in three different states and spent more than $70,000 from the Lumberton Band booster club account over a five-month period to “relieve stress from work and [her] divorce,” according to the probable cause affidavit for her arrest notarized Nov. 30. Cox had been appointed treasurer of the club the previous school year in April, and the board signed her onto the account in late May and issued her a debit card early June.

An emotional Sheriff Mitch Woods bade a fond farewell to staff, fellow peace officers and friends of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office during a retirement celebration for the longtime lawman on Dec. 2. Woods is saying goodbye after 42 years of service to the Southeast Texas community.
