Detectives with Port Arthur Police Department's Major Crime Unit are currently investigating a report of possible child abuse after receiving a call from a local hospital regarding life-threatening injuries to a one-month-old child.

Port Arthur Police took four men into custody as suspects in an aggravated assault in the 1300 block of Delaware Drive Saturday night, August 17.

According to a news release from PAPD, officers were dispatched to Delaware Drive at approximately 9:35 p.m. in reference to an assault victim. Upon arrival at the scene, officers located the male victim who had sustained "several injuries," police reported. Witnesses advised police the man was assaulted by several armed suspects.

Judges on the United States District Court for the District of Columbia Brett M. Kavanaugh, Ellen Segal Huvelle and Rudolph Contreras issued a ruling on multiple requests from the Beaumont Independent School District and the Department of Justice to intervene in any upcoming school board election with a resounding “no” to all case filings.

UPDATE: Detectives have identified one of the suspects in the Aug. 20 murder of Kendra Crump. In a press release, the Beaumont Police Department said police are currently attempting to locate Cameron Charles Frank, a 23-year-old Beaumont resident.

Texas Department of State Health Services logo

Citing four confirmed measles cases in the last month and nine cases for the year, the Texas Department of State Health Services has issued a health alert Friday, Aug. 16, 2013, and is urging immunization against this highly contagious illness.

State health officials are asking health care providers to be on alert for potential exposures and patients with measles symptoms, particularly in the North Texas area. The four most recently confirmed cases are from Tarrant County. Other Texas counties with cases this year include Dallas (2), Denton (2) and Harris (1).

In honor of National Immunization Awareness Month, the City of Port Arthur Health Department will host a special immunization clinic Thursday, Aug. 22, from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. at 449 Austin Ave., Port Arthur.

Children enrolled in Medicaid and children with no health insurance coverage will be accepted. No appointment necessary.

A Beaumont man is dead and his motorcycle heavily damaged after striking a tree in Beaumont's North End. 

According to a BPD press release, police responded to the crash about 4:49 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18 to find 53-year-old Perry Michael Herring with serious head injuries, having not worn a helmet at the time of the crash. 

The press release said Herring was traveling southbound on Pine Street from the river when his motorcycle left the road near Pine and Lasalle streets.
