At about 7:19 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 2, officers with the Beaumont Police Department arrived in the 2200 block of Sweetgum Lane in response to a reported disturbance involving a man shooting a handgun. Upon arrival, officers learned from witnesses involved in the disturbance that the shooter, 36-year-old Gerald Downs of Beaumont, was nearby in the vicinity.
