A young Port Arthur resident was killed early July 7 when his vehicle left the road and struck a utility pole in the 4800 block of Dryden Road in Port Arthur.

Central High School came into being in 1986 with the merger of the French and Charlton-Pollard high schools. According to the Beaumont Independent School District finance department, Central currently holds an enrollment of 1,698 students. Of those students, 85 percent receive free or reduced lunch.

Kenneth Ross, a utility line technology student, earned a silver medal in job skill demonstration open. In this contest, competitors demonstrate and explain an entry-level job skill. His advisor was Rusty Koenig, program director of utility line technology.
