Gulf Credit Union has announced it will host the Cars For The Cure Car Show and Contest in cooperation with the Tri-City Corvette Club.

The event will be Saturday, April 6, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot adjacent to Gulf Credit Union’s office in Groves between Highway 73 and 39th Street. There is no charge for admission.

Attendees can enjoy a barbeque lunch provided by Eaton Meats for $5.

Active duty and military veterans will be able to register early for Lamar University classes beginning with the May Mini, Summer and Fall 2013 terms.

“We wanted to honor our service members for their service and dedication to our country and make them feel welcome,” said Norma Cumbaa, coordinator of veterans affairs.

Two businesses were burglarized in Orange over the last two days. According to reports from the Orange Police Department, Another Level of Fashion at 1006 6th St. and Tractor Supply Co. at 2020 Interstate 10 West in Orange were broken into and had items taken.

The Board of Regents of the Texas State University System has unanimously approved the appointment of Kenneth R. Evans, Ph.D., as president of Lamar University. Regents voted on Dr. Evans’ appointment during a special called meeting of the board today.

One man is dead and at least three others were injured during a pair of Saturday night shootings in Port Arthur on March 30.

At about 3 a.m. Sunday morning, March 31, Port Arthur police said they responded to a gunfight between two groups of men at 901 Houston Ave. near the Old School Lounge.

Investigators with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office are searching for the perpetrator or perpetrators of numerous vehicle burglaries that have been reported all over the county.

Two men reported they were shot at approximately 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, March 31 while at an apartment in Orange.

A 61-year-old Deweyville, Texas man has been sentenced to federal prison for child pornography violations in the Eastern District of Texas, announced U.S. Attorney John M. Bales on March 28.

According to a press release from the U.S Attorney's office, Mark James Frederick pleaded guilty on October 30, 2012, to possession of child pornography and was sentenced to 120 months in federal prison today by U.S. District Judge Ron Clark.

Port Arthur Mayor Delores “Bobbie” Prince and city manager Floyd Johnson presented resident Thressal Lorraine Prevost with the key to her new home at a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday, March 27, at 1 p.m. The event took place at Prevost’s newly built four-bedroom, two-bathroom house on 14th Street in Port Arthur.
