As part of the largest single-day, private-sector pay increase ever, more than 1.2 million Walmart and Sam’s Club associates in the U.S., including 29,777 in Southeast Texas and more than 146,463 in the state of Texas, will receive a pay raise in their March 10 paycheck. The increases are part of the company’s two-year, $2.7 billion investment in higher pay, better training, clearer career paths and additional educational opportunities for its workers. Walmart associates are eligible for quarterly cash bonuses based on the performance of their store.

The Beaumont Public Health Department celebrated its grand opening Thursday, March 3, with an official ribbon cutting ceremony. Health Department employees moved into the new facility at 3040 College Street in January.

The Lamar State College-Orange Foundation has set Saturday, April 23, as the date for its fifth annual “Boot Scootin’ at the Brown Estate” fundraiser. The evening will begin at 7 p.m. with a “social hour” and barbeque dinner that will be followed by dancing to the music of the Twangsters Union band. Guests will be seated under tents so that they can enjoy the springtime ambience and beauty of the Brown Estate grounds.
