Orange County Vietnam War Memorial

More than 58,000 Americans died as a result of the Vietnam War, from the American exit in 1975 stretching back to its genesis decades earlier. Twenty-eight of those American troops identified as killed in the line of duty were from Orange County, Texas. And Vietnam veteran Jerry Gatch refuses to let them be forgotten.

Police say a young child drowned while swimming in a Beaumont hotel pool.

According to a BPD press release, first responders were called to the Super 8 Motel at  2850 I-10 East about 5:36 p.m. to find family members administering CPR to a four-year-old who had stopped breathing.

Orange Police arrested Iqdal Ibrahim Patel (inset)

Orange Police arrested 54-year-old Iqdal Ibrahim Patel for possession of a controlled substance Friday, July 19. According to and OPD press release, the arrest came after a lengthy investigation into complaints of drug activity at the Econo Lodge hotel at 2900 Interstate 10 in Orange where Patel was the manager.

AUSTIN – Scores of illegal wildlife traffickers face federal and state charges for selling protected species online last summer. The cases result from a coordinated undercover law enforcement operation conducted simultaneously by Texas game wardens, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, other states and federal agencies, and three Asian countries.

Operation Wild Web, a coordinated effort between the USFWS and the other participating agencies, resulted in more than 150 arrests involving federal wildlife crimes.

The United Christian Care Center at 293 Wilson Street in Vidor is giving away school supplies for qualifying children going to VISD schools in the upcoming year. Supplies for children from Pre-K through 6th grades will be distributed from 9 a.m. until Noon from Aug. 6 through Aug. 8.

Thursday evening, July 18, at about 8:20 p.m., the Beaumont Police Department 911 communications center received a burglar alarm from Beaumont Tractor at 4430 College St. The alarm company was monitoring live-feed video surveillance of the property that showed two men prowling the fenced lot. Patrol officers quickly responded, set up a perimeter and captured two men who were attempting to steal equipment, according to a BPD press release.
