The Beaumont Police Department arrested the father of a 1-year-old, who was injured Thursday, Jan. 24, during a shoot out at a Beaumont residence.

According to a news release from BPD, detectives, agents from the ATF and DEA have been working together to investigate the home invasion/double shooting that left the boy and his 24-year-old pregnant mother severely injured.

Following a day-long surveillance of suspected drug traffickers on Wednesday, Jan. 23, law enforcement officials apprehended two Southeast Texas men. Jefferson County Sheriff's Office task force deputies and ATF agents tracked two suspects as they went from Port Arthur, to Houston, then back to Jefferson County.

A Jefferson County grand jury returned an indictment on Jan. 24 alleging a Jefferson County inmate already being held for the 2018 capital murder of Michael Legg was also responsible for sex trafficking of six females, including one who also faces charges in the alleged conspiracy and killing of Legg.

According to the indictment, Duane Lamonte Owens Jr. is accused of forcing the women, two of which were under the age of 18, into prostutition. Multiple points of the indictment state he compelled the victims to participate in prostitution, of which he allegdly benefited.

The Beaumont Police Department received a call to a home in the 8700 block of Newfield in reference to a shooting on Thursday, Jan. 24. As officers were en route to the residence, the caller told dispatch they wre transporting a 24-year-old woman who was eight months pregnant, as well as her one-year-old son, who had both been shot. The boy was life-flighted to Houston. Both are listed in stable condition.

A chase that started in the city of Lumberton ended after law enforcement utilized spike strips to disable the vehicle.  According to Lumberton Police Chief Danny Sulllins, officers attempted to stop the suspect, identified as Anthony Wayne Harvey, 45, of Orange, when officers learned the vehicle he was operating was without insurance at about 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23.

Jefferson County deputies are currently searching the Taylor Bayou area for Donald Ray Goodman, 54. 

Goodman's truck was found abandoned on Highway 73 at the Taylor Bayou bridge. He last spoke to family the morning of Wednesday, Jan. 23 before leaving for work. Goodman never arrived to his place of employment.

Anyone who has seen Goodman since he went missing or knows his location is asked to call JCSO at (409) 835-8411.

The Beaumont Police Department reported as of Wednesday, Jan. 23, the seventh suspect of eight involved in the Jan. 10 burglary of the AT&T store on Dowlen Road was in custody at the Jefferson County Correctional Facility.

According to information from BPD, 26-year-old Corey De'Vonte, of Houston, had been hiding in the Hardin County area where he had lost control of a getaway vehicle. He had been hiding for 13 days in a sheltered area, but had enough after being in the elements for nearly two weeks without food.

Two Beaumont men were arrested the afternoon of Saturday, Jan. 19, after a traffic stop ended in the discovery of narcotics, fire arms and multiple warrants.

The MdBio Foundation recently brought a hi-tech mobile laboratory to several Southeast Texas schools, teaching hurricane-impacted students about wildlife forensics, virtual reality and other STEM-related subjects by providing them with hands-on experience.

The city of Beaumont released a statement containing Beaumont Animal Care’s save rate percentage of 91 percent for the month of December. This high percentage allows Beaumont Animal Care to be considered a no-kill shelter. The save percentage of each animal category includes: Dogs being at 90 percent, Cats at 95 percent and wildlife at 81 percent, which was averaged out for a total of 91 percent.
