The Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas hosted its inaugural World AIDS Day prayer breakfast in the Spindletop Community Room on the hospital campus at 740 Hospital Drive on Wednesday, Nov. 30.

The prayer breakfast brought together both faith and community leaders to “bring awareness of the needs of our citizens currently infected, affected, or vulnerable to HIV” and “honor lives lost,” according to a release.

The United States Court of Appeals Fifth Circuit has upheld a jury decision that awarded $2.5 million in damages against Orange County for the wrongful death of an inmate held in the county jail’s detention “bubble” for days on end as the mentally ill man died of renal failure in a pool of uneaten jail food and human waste.

Ivory P, 36, a Beaumont rapper and a signee of the late Pimp C’s UGK label, was shot and killed during an armed confrontation with law enforcement officers following a high-speed car chase Nov. 22, reports the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO). After the shooting, the Beaumont Police Department released information implicating Ivory P, whose real name is Ivory C.

Standing before Jefferson County 252nd District Court Judge Raquel West on Monday, Nov. 28, 28-year-old Xavier Ardoin admitted guilt in the July 2016 death and dismemberment of a small kitten that had been abandoned at a Beaumont apartment complex where the defendant stayed. The less than 2-month-old cat had been decapitated, its head mounted in the apartment’s courtyard, and the body tossed in a nearby ditch.

Port Arthur police are searching for a suspect after a car accident led to a knife fight near Alford’s Market Basket in Port Arthur, PAPD Field Operations Lieutenant Jeremy Lloyd said in a release.

On Nov. 30 at 12:40 a.m., PAPD were called out to an aggravated assault near West Port Arthur Road and FM 365 near the Market Basket at 5899 West Port Arthur Road.

A Little Cypress-Mauriceville CISD school bus carrying high school students was involved in a one vehicle accident the afternoon of Monday, Nov. 28, LCM community relations coordinator Sherry Combs said in a statement, but no one on the bus was injured.

Beaumont Animal Services wants the Southeast Texas community to foster lonely shelter pets for the holidays. For the seventh year in a row, Beaumont Animal Services is participating in the national “Foster a Lonely Pet for the Holidays” pet fostering program. This year's program will run from Dec. 2 through Jan. 3. All adoption fees will be discounted 50% during this program. Across the country, over 13,000 pet rescue organizations are trying to empty their kennels for Christmas, encouraging members of the public to invite a pet home for the holidays.
