Following two separate overnight robberies on Monday, Jan. 21 and Tuesday, Jan. 22, Exxpress Mart is offering a $10,000 reward for information relating to the crimes which resulted in one employee being injured.

After appearing before U.S. Magistrate Judge Keith Giblin on Jan. 10, Jonathan Torres, who was indicted for a series of attempted bombings throughout Beaumont in April and May 2018, has been deemed competent to stand trial.

The Port Arthur Police Department is asking for community assistance in identifying a theft suspect caught on camera. 

According to information from the PAPD, the woman is either Hispanic or light skin African American. She has committed several thefts at local businesses.

After getting an ATV stuck in high water while traversing an area near CR 701 near Buna, an elderly man was killed but his female caretaker was able to survive nearly two days in the water.

According to information from Texas Parks and Wildlife, on Wednesday the pair became stranded in the high water caused by the elevated Neches River. The man drowned Wednesday, but the woman was able to hold onto the ATV until she was found Friday morning by a passing boater.

Beaumont firefighters were kept busy responding to a blaze near Mariposa and South Street intersection Thursday evening, Jan. 17.

According to Beaumont Fire Department information, the structure was an abandoned home that was in a previously deteriorated condition. A partial collapse of the building had taken place prior to the fire and prevented firefighters from making entry into the home. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) announced Thursday, Jan. 17, that an oversized heavy transport will be making its way from SH 146 at Cedar Bayou, to SH 146 north of Interstate 10 on late Friday, Jan. 18, and Saturday evening, Jan. 19.

According to a statement from TXDOT, the haul will begin at 10 p.m. on Friday and is expected to last into the morning hours of Saturday, Jan. 19. It will park near the I-10 and FM 3180 intersection until continuing the move beginning 10 p.m. Saturday night.

As painted traffic light control boxes become more and more prominent around Beaumont, more and more artists are able to share their experience, vision and passion with fellow citizens.

One such artist sharing her artistic view is professional artist and Beaumont resident Ines Alvidres. Born in Chihuahua, Mexico, and immigrating to Beaumont at the age of 16 to be with family, Alvidres has found beauty in the boomtown city.

The Art Museum of Southeast Texas (AMSET) will be hosting “A Vintage Valentine,” a dinner fundraiser, the night of Thursday, Feb. 14. 

The fundraiser will feature a sit-down dinner corresponding with wine and soft jazz by Sharon Montgomery and Jimmy Simmons. All proceed from the event will go to fund AMSET’s educational programs, which benefit local students.

The night will begin with champagne and appetizers, which will be followed be a dinner paired with curated wines and sweets to top it off. The event will have a balloon raffle with mystery prizes.

The Greater Port Arthur Chamber of Commerce is asking for assistance in raising $22,000 for Coast Guard service men and women who are not receiving their regular paychecks due to the partial federal government shutdown.

The suspect, Jessie “Buddy” Lawrence Hamblin, in the Silsbee Walmart parking lot stabbing the morning of Tuesday, Jan. 15 is in custody.
